Yes it kills bacteria or other germs which we cannot see thru naked eyes...lot of benifits are there after boiling water...Allow people to drink according to their needs. Many people need even more than the average of one-half gallon, per day. The individual amount needed depends on age, physical activity, physical condition, and time of year.
Never ration water unless ordered to do so by authorities. Drink the amount you need today and try to find more for tomorrow. Under no circumstances should a person drink less than one quart (four cups) of water each day. You can minimize the amount of water your body needs by reducing activity and staying cool.

Yes it makes it safe to drink but it kills only bacterai and germs present in water, it wont remove any toxic elements in it. LIke if you mix poison in it youstill can not drink it. boil water for 20 minutes let it cool down and then sieve it before drinking.

Does boiling water make it safe to drink?
A good hot fire will take care of the rest. Also, you can relax, you don't have ... Well, it seems boiling water to make it safe is certainly a good idea. It will get rid of a lot of the bugs that lie beneath, but what it won't do is get rid of the toxins that the bugs produce. So whenever you're drinking water from a natural source, it's a good idea to filter it before you boil it. It may save you a lot of pain in the long run. ...

The Earth provides an environment that can sustain
life,
thanx to the many very sensitive balances set up on it,
from the gas levels in the atmosphere to its distance from the sun,
from the existence of mountains to the presence of drinking water,
from the wide variety of plants to the temperature of the Earth.

If the water looks clean I would assume boiling it will kill most of the harmful bacteria.

Remember the world's biggest blue green algae outbreak back in November 1991? A 1000-kilometre stretch of the Barwon and Darling Rivers was covered by a deadly bloom. Some blue green algae toxins are 200 times more toxic than cyanide! Boiling water actually released the toxins so you have to be careful. When in doubt throw it out.
