It is broken down to few stages.. partly because the other person has guessed that it may be a lie and the fear of being recognised... in order to stay calm, cool so as to show the other side that there is nothing wrong.. Infact, most answers are correct... as there is also in addition to stress, changes around that effect the situation... for example...answering such a question.... so the best answer is what each one of you have said as you have may felt or though about it already... next time you do it...try pointing to an object elsewhere so as to divert the listeners attention and notice the change...by saying a blatant lie... he/ she would believe it hands down !! by maraff22

When a person is lying, they usually need to be careful about what else they say, lest it not match their lie, and give them away. Biting the lip is an unconscious manifestation of trying to make sure they hold back saying anything careless that would give them away.
